Dr. P. Ravi Kumar
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Dr. P. Ravi Kumar has been serving as the Head of the Department (HoD), Mechanical Engineering, at CMR College of Engineering & Technology (CMRCET), Hyderabad, since May 2017. With over 27 years of teaching, research, and academic administration experience, he has played a pivotal role in the sustained academic growth and overall development of the department. He has been associated with CMRCET since 21st June 2004, contributing significantly to teaching–learning processes, research promotion, and institutional quality initiatives.
He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E.) from Osmania University, Master’s degree (M.Tech.) in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Machine Design from JNTU, Kakinada, and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from JNTU, Hyderabad. He also holds an MBA from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad, a PG Diploma in Plastics Engineering from CIPET, Hyderabad, and a PG Diploma in Industrial Engineering & Management from the Andhra Pradesh Productivity Council, Hyderabad.
Dr. Ravi Kumar is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), Life member Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Member of SAE India, Life member of Tribological Society of India.
He has successfully guided more than 50 B.Tech. and M.Tech. projects and is presently guiding two Ph.D. research scholars. His scholarly contributions include 27 journal publications, 18 international conference papers, and 19 national conference papers, with presentations at prestigious international conferences held in Venice, Switzerland, Austria, and Japan, in addition to India. His areas of interest include Design and Manufacturing. He is the author of textbooks on Engineering Thermodynamics and Engineering Drawing and has delivered several invited talks and guest lectures at the national level.
Roles and Contributions as HoD
As Head of the Department since May 2017, Dr. Ravi Kumar has been responsible for providing academic leadership, administrative oversight, and strategic direction to the department. His major contributions include:
- Effective implementation and monitoring of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework
- Academic planning, curriculum delivery, and continuous improvement processes
- Faculty mentoring, performance evaluation, and professional development
- Promotion of research, innovation, funded projects, and consultancy activities
- Strengthening industry–institute interaction, MoUs, and internship opportunities
- Encouraging faculty and students to participate in FDPs, workshops, certifications, and conferences
- Coordination and compliance of NBA, NAAC, IQAC, and AICTE quality initiatives
- Development and modernization of laboratories and learning resources
- Support and supervision of student professional bodies, technical clubs, and co-curricular activities
- Facilitating student placements, higher studies, entrepreneurship, and career guidance
Under his leadership, the department has successfully organized faculty development programs, student skill enhancement initiatives, technical workshops, industrial visits, national-level events, and outreach programs, leading to enhanced academic performance, research output, and student employability.
