Major Dr. V. A. Narayana is Professor of Computer Science & Engineering and Director of CMR College of Engineering & Technology, Hyderabad. He holds a Doctorate in Computer Science & Engineering from JNT University, Hyderabad, awarded in 2014, with a doctoral thesis titled “Detecting Near Duplicates for Web Documents”. He obtained his Master’s degree in Computer Science & Engineering from Osmania University in 2004 and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Osmania University in 1994.

He brings with him more than 31+ years of rich professional experience, comprising 20+ years in higher education and academic administration and  11 years of distinguished service in the Indian Army as a Commissioned Officer, attaining the rank of Major, where he served in instructional and leadership roles equivalent to Associate Professor at premier military and technical institutions. He has been serving at CMRCET since November 2006.

During his academic career, he has been actively involved in educational planning, academic governance, curriculum design, research promotion, and institutional quality assurance. He has served as Member Secretary of the Board of Governors since 2016, Chairman of the College Academic Council, and Member of the Board of Studies (CSE) since 2014. He is also a NAAC Peer Team Assessor. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India) and a member of CSI, ISCA, and ISTE.

Major Dr. Narayana has worked extensively in research, innovation, and faculty development, contributing to the establishment and strengthening of Research & Development Centres and the Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Under his leadership, the institution has witnessed significant growth in research publications, funded projects, patents, start-ups, and industry collaboration. Under his leadership and guidance faculty members of the institution have published over 1500 research papers in the last three years, and the college has secured more than 20 funded research projects amounting to ₹700+ lakhs.

He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences, authored and edited Springer publications, and written textbooks in C Programming, Data Structures, and Programming for Problem Solving. He has guided 25 M.Tech projects and is currently guiding Ph.D scholars under IIT Bombay, JNTU Hyderabad, Bennett University, and GIET University. He also holds several granted and published patents in emerging areas such as AI, cybersecurity, IoT, robotics, blockchain, and quantum-resistant systems.

Major Dr. V. A. Narayana has played a pivotal role in achieving major institutional milestones including NAAC A+ accreditation, NBA Tier-I accreditation for multiple programmes, UGC Autonomous status, improved NIRF rankings, and recognition in ARIIA and Innovation rankings. He has also been instrumental in significantly improving student placements through structured training and industry-aligned initiatives.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to engineering education and institutional leadership, he has received several prestigious awards including the Dewang Mehta National Education Leadership Award, Sarvotham Acharya Puraskar, Principal Excellence Award, Organizational Excellence in Technical Education Award, Best Educationist Award, and an International Research Fellowship Award.
